Coming soon: A. V. Dicey, from lectures on the English Constitution: "Suppose, for example, that a body of foreign anarchists come to
England and are thought by the police on strong grounds of suspicion to be engaged in a plot, say for blowing up the Houses of Parliament. Suppose also
that the existence of the conspiracy does not admit of absolute proof. An English Minister, if he is not prepared to put the conspirators on their trial,
has no means of arresting them, or of expelling them from the country. In case of arrest or imprisonment they would at once be brought before the High
Court on a writ of habeas corpus, and unless some specific legal ground for their detention could be shown they would be forthwith set at liberty. Of the
political or, to use foreign expressions, of the 'administrative' reasons which might make the arrest or expulsion of a foreign refugee highly expedient, the
judges would hear nothing; that he was arrested by order of the Secretary of State, that his imprisonment was a simple administrative act, that the Prime
Minister or the Home Secretary was prepared to make affidavit that the arrest was demanded by the most urgent considerations of public safety, or to assure
the Court that the whole matter was one of high policy and concerned national interests, would be no answer whatever to the demand for freedom under a writ of
habeas corpus." If this warms the cockles of your heart, look for this section to be added at some time during the month of July - after we celebrate our
Independence!

On the lighter side - Pottle is abolished? Hogwash. Say Pottle, not half gallon!
A comment received at this site suggests that a directive signed by President Bush takes power away from the people and from Congress in the event of a loosely defined emergency. Is this a real attempt by the President at Usurpation of Power? No.
Take time to be entertained. Read SUPER BUGGIE!, written by Thomas P. Vincent, creator of this site, intended as a prologue for a series of chapters about the escapades of Bill, his dog, and the bombacious bug.

A reader asked about High Crimes and Misdemeanors and whether former President Clinton's position is correct
under the common law and British impeachment law. A full response requires more room than a site of this nature allows.
However, I do offer an answer.

Most should think not, but look at the date of publication and the cases handled by CLARENCE DARROW during his
career. Does this statement help us understand today's violence?
